Fun in the sun. (Could that be a pun?)

I bought Wii Sports Resort today and by god it's awesome. It's amazing how effective the WiiMotionPlus is. If the swordplay game is anything to go by, Red Steel 2 will be the BESTEST ACTION GAME EVAR!

Speaking of the swordplay, its suprisingly impressive. I love it. It requires you to THINK rather than maverick swinging. That approach is likely to see you lose. To guard you simply hold B and position the remote accordingly for example, if the opponent slashes horizontally then ONLY a vertical block will work and vice versa (vertical slash = horizontal parry) even diagonals occur. To be honest a constant perpendicular against his sword should prevent most attacks.

The difficulty curve is gradual yet becomes challenging relatively quickly. I say challenging because if you adopt the right strategy, its never infuriating. My favorite mode is the showdown where you have to defeat a number of enemies but if you take three hits its game over. Its very satifying to swing about and take 5 enemies out in one fell swoop yet again this feeling is short lived as the AI makes for a lot more defensive enemies with more health at around stage 5 onwards so you have to adopt a more patient approach especially with the larger boss characters with 3 hearts (same as your max) where not even quick combos can dispatch them. So a hit-block-hit-block-hit strategy is generally the safest way.

Another add on I like is the achievement-esque stamps that require certain actions to get for example, We all know of the secret in the 100-pin bowling in Wii Sports which gives you an instant strike? Well you actually can prove you got it now. Others are very hard e.g. score 25 (all baskets) in a row and have 15 sceonds left on the clock. (The only way to achieve this is to start before the Go! which can be done along with perfect throwing)

While most of the events are tiresome, you can take a breather by selecting island flight which allows you to fly around WuHu island in the style of a paper plane. This is similar to the tech demo shown at E3'06. Its the exact same principle, hold the remote like a plane and fly. You can collect (i) points allowing for unlockables to the flight such as a pop gun, balloon collecting and ability to fly at diffrent times of the day. Its a nice reprieve from all the more physical activities but has an great amount of depth and exploration (there are secret caverns all over the place. e.g. into the volcano)

So for a slightly elevated price tag, this is well worth the money. I haven't even gone into detail regarding the other 10 or so events (all with their own variations, mind so more like 25+) yet i can honestly say this is a great game and shows the remarkable simplicity of the WiiMotionPlus to a great extent yet knowing Nintendo, they have only shown a portion of the WiiMotionPlus' capabilities but that portion is IMMENSE!

Well it seems i have conducted a review rather than a journal entry ^^' but I had to share my views on this wonderful game.
